Auto theft is a statistic that never seems to go down. There are more vehicles produced everyyear and put on the road. According to statistics released from the American Automobiles Manufacturer’s Association in 1994, there wre 201,763,492 motor vehicles registered in the U.S. and 1,539,097 vehicles stolen. Auto-theft is always on the rise and not confined to just the United States, it is worldwide.

More people choose to protect their vehicle with some sort of protection device. Auto theft is all across the world, and the retail market now supplies more vehicle protection devices. With statistics as high as they are, the market place now has a high demand for a new type of affordable product.

There are currently many companies that already manufacture vehicle protection devices. These devices range from complex units that can be expensive and confusing to install, to manually locking devices used on the steering wheel. All of these devices have their good and bad qualities. The devices that work the best can be very expensive and they require the services of a professional automotive technician to install the unit. Our competitive advantage is that our design is very simple and straightforward. Is is designed to be able to be installed by the average person or the do-it-yourselfer. By making this device simple and removing all the useless hardware, we are able to manufacture and sell these units at more than 50% less than comparable devices.

Find the Best Anti-Theft Device for your Car with These Tips

How safe do you think your car really is sitting in that parking gargae all day while you’re at work? What about sitting outside your house, even? The truth is without an anti-theft device installed in your car, it never really is safe. A recent study showed that every 25 seconds someone’s vehicle is reported stolen. That totals 1.2 million car thefts each year. One of those cars can be yours next.

So you have to decide if the extra money you put out for buying a car alarm system is a worthy investment compared to losing your car. This is the only question. You’re next faced with ones like, which car safety system should you buy? Which will best protect it?

A professional car thief can and will steal any car, if they want it bad enough. You’re job is to at least make them work hard if they plan on trying to steal yours. Law enforcement officials recommend using common sense combined with a good anti-theft devices to thwart thieves.

There are many different anti-theft devices out there. Here are a few tips to help you protect your car:

First off, think about where you normally park your car at home and at work. If your alarm was to go off, would you or anyone else for that matter, hear it or notice it? If it was to go off, would it simply be ignored?

One great way to deter potential thieves is buy a heavy gauge steering wheel lock or tire locks. They will run you about $100-$200 but it’s worth the cost in peace of mind. Another trick is use indicator lights or window stickers that give off the impression of the car having an alarm installed.

Do some research of just how effective certain theft-prevention measures actually are. If someone is determined enough to break into your car, they will find a way. Certain systems just make it more difficult such as cutting through certain steering immobilizers or shutting off the alarm.

What are some of the ranges of the anti-theft systems you are looking at? The most popular systems include options such as audible alarms, a concierge system or cellular alarms that notify police. Other systems you’ll find have locking steering-wheel covers, steering-column covers, locking steering-wheel bars, kill switches, fuel-system locks, tracking devices and delay devices.

How much protection are you looking for? Do an evaluation of how far you are willing to go and how much you are willing to spend. You’ll find that some alarms, reasonably priced in the $150 to $1,000 range, will arm automatically. Some alarms come equipped with tracking devices and are priced from $400 to $1,500. These types of systems help locate the car if it’s stolen. Steering-wheel locks and column locks are priced cheaply but must be manually put on every time.

Create a budget for how much you are willing to spend now and in the future for any additional costs. Cheaper anti-theft devices such as mechanical immobilizers don’t need to be professionally installed, but you’re also not getting the best deterrent system either.

Low-tech, cheaper anti-theft systems can be found in nearly any auto parts store or even in the automotive section of a major retailer. However, for the more sophisticated alarms, your best bet is to find a stereo shop or parts store that specializes in automotive electronics such as sound systems, alarms and radar detectors. They can even do the install for you there.

Once you have your new alarm system successfully installed, call your insurance company to see if you are now eligible for any discounts.

Auto Theft – What You Can Do To Protect Your Vehicle
By James Strobes

Auto theft is among the most prevalent crimes today. According to some studies, if you leave your car unlocked or place valuables in sight in the car, you have a one in thirty chance of having your car stolen.

However, if you lock your car, hide your valuables from sight and use an anti-theft device that can be seen from outside, the chances drop to one in thirty thousand!

Obviously, the actions you take have a direct bearing on how safe your vehicle is. Here are several things you can do minimize the risk of auto theft.

1. Use common sense. It should be obvious that a car that’s unlocked with keys in the ignition is a very attractive target for thieves.

Even if you are parking your vehicle for just a few minutes, take the keys out of the ignition, close all windows and lock the doors. Try to park in a well-lit area, whenever possible. Don’t display valuables / packages in plain sight inside your car.

At home, park in your garage, not outside.

2. Using a protection device helps. If it is a device that’s plainly visible to would-be thieves, it has deterrent value too.

Such devices include audible alarms, brake and wheel locks, steering column collars, tire deflators and more.

3. Immobilizing devices offer good protection against theft. They can, for example, prevent thieves from hot wiring the car bypassing the ignition.

There are devices that can block the flow of electricity or fuel needed to run the car, till you press a hidden button.

Immobilization devices include smart keys that have computer chips inside them, fuse cutoffs, ignition kill switches, etc.

4. Have a tracking device installed. This device emits a radio signal that can be picked up by a monitoring center or by the police. If you car gets stolen, a tracking device can be invaluable to help recover the vehicle.

5. Keep garage doors locked even when you are home. Take care of your home security and make it difficult for burglars to get into your house or garage. That will reduce the risk of car theft as well.

6. Other things you can do include engraving your vehicle ID number on the windshield.

Some localities have a ‘watch your car’ program where special decals are displayed on the car. The authorities then have the right to pull the vehicle over and question the driver if the car is being driven at odd hours, such as between 1:00 am and 5:00 am. This helps because the majority of car thefts take place between these hours.

Make use of the simple tips above and you will significantly reduce the chances of your car being stolen.

Combat Car Theft
By Dennis J James

Car anti-theft advancements are now a very important part of the car buying decision to consumers. You would think with all these new theft gadgets you can find on new cars auto theft would be nearly extinct. However, unfortunately nothing could be farther from the truth as the stolen car industry is still big business today. Anti-theft security systems really can only do so much to combat car theft.

Just recently, the National Insurance Crime Bureau reported that vehicle theft rates raised by nearly 14,000 to 1,260 million vehicles. This increase marks the fourth consecutive year the auto theft rate has climbed. However the National Insurance Crime Bureau suggests a number of methods to help car owners steer clear of vehicle theft. Lets face it anti-theft systems can actually cost a lot of money, but at least most reputable car insurance companies with give you some kind of discount if a car owner happens to have certain types of anti-theft devices on their cars.

According to the NICB, the total loss for owners and insurance companies due to vehicle theft is more than $8 billion annually, a figure that grows higher every year as cars and trucks become more expensive. In fact, the average value of cars reported stolen increased by $96 to $6,797 according to the Insurance Information Institute. Thefts also cost consumers in the way of higher annual insurance premiums.

Where you happen to live is also a major factor according to reports by the NICB who reports that owners who live in an urban area, a port city, or a town that borders Canada or Mexico should consider extra protection. The NICB lists the 10 cities, including their surrounding counties, with the highest vehicle thefts from highest to lowest: Modesto, Calif.; Phoenix-Mesa, Ariz.; Stockton-Lodi, Calif.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Sacramento, Calif.; Fresno, Calif.; Oakland, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; San Diego, Calif.; and Detroit, Mich.

The car you drive affects its chances of being stolen. The NICB listed, from highest to lowest, the 2000 Honda Civic, 1989 Toyota Camry, 1991 Honda Accord, 1994 Chevrolet 1500 pickup, 1994 Dodge Caravan, 1997 Ford F-150 pickup, 1986 Toyota Truck, 1995 Acura Integra, 1987 Nissan Sentra and 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass as the most frequently stolen vehicles in 2003, the latest year for which data is available.

Here are some helpful tips to protect your autos from car theft.

1. Never hide your car keys in or around your car, thieves know where to look.

2. Never leave valuables in plan view; leaving valuables in your seat just tempts the thieves.

3. Credit cards, checkbooks and personal ID’S should never be left in your car or you can become a victim of identity theft along with auto theft.

4. Never leave car registrations or titles in the car making it easier for the theft to sell you’re car.

5. Always park in well-lit areas especially in parking garages.

6. Thieves will tow your car away so remember to leave a standard in gear and automatics always activate your parking emergency brakes.

7. Lock your garage door when your car is parked in it and make sure any other doors and windows are locked as well.

8. Don’t be fooled if you think your car is too old, car age doesn’t matter to car thieves.

While nothing is full proof many of the cars stolen every year could have be avoided if car owners had remembered to take some of these basic precautions.

Car Theft Prevention
By Terje Ellingsen

Research has revealed that 3 out of 4 American vehicle owners do not have utilities to prevent car theft installed on their vehicles. And – as if this wasn’t enough – only one out of four who have these tools installed are actually not activating them on a regular basis. We know that motorcar thieves are operating today as they have done as long as there has been
cars. We also know that car theft protection utilities can prevent this kind of crime as well as other crimes like burglaries and vandalism.

Prevent thieves from getting into your vehicle

Vehicle alarms are one of the most common security installation in a motorcar today Many auto owners have already got them, and more and more are doing it. Most auto alarm systems are equipped with motion sensors as well as impact sensors. When sombody is trying to steal the vehicle a loud
siren or series of tones in the 120-decibel range is activated. High quality auto alarms today arm themselves automatically when you leave the vehicle and include an automatic kill switch (see below). They also flash the headlights and honk the horn in addition to sounding the siren.

Another car stealing prevention facility is a Steering Wheel Lock. This is a long metal bar with a lock that fits on the steering wheel. When this is activated it prevents the steering wheel from being turned. It also discourage thieves from stealing the automobile, as it is very visual from the outside of the vehicle. This device represents an Inexpensive way to keep would-be thieves away.

Prevent thieves from moving your car

If the thieves for some reason have already broken in to the vehicle, armored collars will prevent them from breaking into the steering column to hot-wire the vehicle. It goes without saying that this device almost make it impossible for thieves to get the vehicle running, thus prevent the motorcar stealing

A more technically advanced way of preventing the engine to start are kill switches, which prevent the flow of electricity or fuel to the engine. Starter disablers serve the same function. The switch is normally hidden in the vehicle and it must be flipped on for the auto to start. These security
devices are effective, inexpensive and no big deal to install.

Another car anti-theft device is an electronic key pre-installed by the vehicle manufacturer, which allow the vehicle to operate only with a correctly coded key. This system is invisible to thieves, easy to use and very reliable.

Let’s say the thives have been able to get the engine going, can you still have some facilities installed that prevent them from stealing it? Yes, install tire locks. These make the motorcar nearly impossible to move. These locks are similar to the circular steel “boots” used by many larger city police departments. This device significantly hampers thieves who are
looking to make a quick getaway and are also visable from the outside of the vehicle, and very effective in discouraging would-be thieves.

Prevent the thieves from getting far

Now, let’s say that the thives for some mysterious reason have been able to steal your vehicle. You can say goodbye to your beloved vehicle forever, you may think. Rethink that! With electronic tracking devices installed in your automobile, the police are already on the alert. I am speaking about an electronic transmitter hidden in the car and emits a signal that is picked up by the police or a monitoring station. So don’t panic – help is on the way.

The thieves must be deterred

The best anti-theft effort however, is to discourage the thieves from even touching your vehicle. Etching the auto’s identification number into the base of the windshield as well as other parts of the vehicle discourages the bandits from stealing it and also aids in recovering the automobile if it is
stolen. This make your vehicle not so attractive to thieves.

The most inexpensive way to prevent your auto from being stolen is to apply decals identifying that the vehicle is protected by either an auto alarm system or a vehcile theft prevention company. I will not recommend that you base your car anti-theft system on this bluff only, but rather steer you towards more technically advanced auto security devices which can ultimately
prevent the theft of your car.
